Sheen Kaf Nizam alias Shiv Krishna Nizam has been conferred the Madhya Pradesh government’s prestigious Iqbal award.
However, a section of Urdu writers are not exactly happy with the selection. Nizam is an acclaimed poet. Prior to him, Iqbal Samman was conferred on greats like Qurratul Ain Hyder, Joginder Pal, Sardar Jafri, Jagannath Azad, Upendra Nath Ashk, and Hayatullah Ansari.
There contention is that if selecting a non-Muslim Urdu litterateur was a criterion for the BJP government then Balraj Komal would have been a good choice. He is a legend now. Besides, Pandit Anand Mohan Zutshi Gulzar Dehlvi could have been a great choice.
Literary giants who have got the award in the past also include Aal-e-Ahmed Suroor, Moin Ahsan Jazbi, Rafat Sarosh, Akhtarul Iman, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Mohammad Hasan, Rafat Sarosh, Qazi Abdus Sattar, Ibrahim Yusuf, Shaharyar, Akhtar Saeed Khan, Anand Narain Mulla and Ismat Chughtai.
Once it was the biggest award in entire world for Urdu writers. It was instituted in 1986 by the then Congress government when Arjun Singh was chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.

At this blog, we feel that Nizam may be a young poet but he is an accomplished one. There is no doubt that he has a distinct style and his poetry is appreciated by masses and classes both. He has kept a fine balance between mushairas and serious poetry. Hence, we welcome the award to him.

I am an outsider. I cannot comment on the situations described above. Yet still, I have to say a couple of nice things for Nazim. I have met this poet-and-lover-of-Urdu-books Shiv Kumar Nazim at Doha, Qatar. BJP or no BJP…he is an honest lover of the language. Some say that Nazim has a collection of 3000plus Urdu books and his son/sons are very well versed in the language. Naturally, credit goes to the father.
My hat is off to S. K. N. for this very reason.
I know a number of poets and writers here, in my country Pakistan; who have lots of nice things to say in favour of Nazim.
Deserving or not, he seem to me an honest Urduwallah.

Nizam is a great personality and his real name is Shiv Krishna Bissa not Shiv Kumar Nizam since Urdi is life and blood of Sh. Shiv Krishna Bissa and that is why he writes his name in Urdu as Sheen Kaaf Nizam and he is not only a versetile poet and critic but his sense of understanding is superior then any person of literature. The in which he describes the life’s fact situation which will require deep understaind to understand the same. Sheen Kaaf Nizam is a person who can be nominated for the Nobel prize. I can say that he is not lesser in tellent and writting then any other nobel laurete of literature.
His quality of deep knowledge in literature is not confined to Tukbandi only but he has command over etymology, philology, syntechtical structure of Urdu language and all the facets of human life are described by him in such a way that the people feel that their emotions have been cristalized in his poetry.
To raise a controvery that he is non-muslim is not only false but he is to be regarded more important because he is coming from a Brahmin Hindu background and as such he is real person to be lebelled as a master of Urdu poetry and he is a critic of International repute.
The Award of Iqbal can only be given to Sheen Kaaf Nizam and when we compare the personality of Iqbal himself then he is son of convert Brahmin Hindu whereas Sheen Kaaf Nizam has acquired the status in Urdu not by virtue of his birth but by virtue of his secular thinking.
The apart from the Iqbal award, the country and Urdu loving people of the whole world should press before the Nobel Foundation to award him Nobel Prize.
Never before in the History Urdu recieved a Nobel Pirze in leterature and as such this should be a campaign and Sheen Kaaf Nizam is the right person for whom the campaign should be made

However, I would suggest that there is no need to post ‘comments on someone’s behalf’ which I am getting on this post. I am not going to moderate them further.
Nizam has truly done magnificent service for Urdu in a state like Rajasthan, where even few Muslim writers have come up in last decades.
A mild criticism of his personality, can’t belittle his achievements. So his friends shouldn’t feel too touchy on this account. It is a famous person who gets brickbats, not an ordinary man.
So be happy & save us trouble.
