These immortal lines were penned by Pandit Braj Narayan Chakbast. He was born in Faizabad and spent his early life in Lucknow. His father was also a poet who wrote under the pen name Yaqeen.

Chakbast is a very important name in Urdu poetry of the first quarter of twentieth century. He was a succesful lawyer. On his way to Rae Bareli, he had died on the railway station.
