Veteran poet Wajid Sehri dies

Veteran Urdu poet Wajid Sehri passed away. He was one of the most prominent poets of Rampur dabistaan (school) of Urdu poetry.

He was active in the poetic circle of Delhi. Several condolence meets were organised to pay tributes to him. At Delhi Urdu Academy Professor Qamar Raees paid glowing tributes to the departed poet.

Sehri’s first collection ‘Sunehri Aanch’ was hailed by critics. He died the day another of his collection was scheduled to be released. Poet Mansoor Usmani had termed the demise as an irreparable loss to the genre of Ghazal in Urdu poetry. He was recalled as an epitome of Eastern values, tehzeeb and wazadari.
